Let&#039;s get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">enable retraction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Retraction is a technique used in 3D printing to reduce unwanted dripping or marking of material during travel movements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By enabling retraction in Cura, the filament is retracted or pulled back into the extruder when it is not being extruded, thus preventing dripping and improving print quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#d5e8f070\"><strong>Retracts the filament when the nozzle travels over an unprinted area<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Retraction consists of retracting the filament when the nozzle moves over an unprinted area. On the other hand, a short shrinkage is more likely to ooze, but the material is safe and the time is shorter. It is important to correctly adjust these settings to get the best results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#d5e8f070\">If you&#039;re just starting out, use Cura&#039;s default &quot;retract distance&quot; values (for an Ender 3 printer = <strong>5.0mm<\/strong>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For 3D printers with a Bowden system (where the extruder is separated from the nozzle), a retraction distance of around 5-7mm is recommended. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For printers with a direct extrusion system, the recommended retraction distance is usually lower, around 1-3mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">retraction speed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The retraction speed determines how quickly the filament retracts into the extruder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too high a speed can cause problems such as jams or even damage the filament causing material wear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, a slow retraction has a higher chance of dripping, but protects the material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#d5e8f070\">If you&#039;re just starting out, use Cura&#039;s default &quot;Retract Speed&quot; values (for an Ender 3 printer = <strong>45.0mm\/s<\/strong>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In general, a retraction speed of around 40-60mm\/s is recommended for Bowden printers and 20-40mm\/s for direct extrusion printers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adjust this setting based on your specific printer and filament for best results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Amount of Retraction Extra Prime<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some filaments can ooze out during the movement of a displacement, which means that after a retraction, when you move the nozzle from one point to another, you can eject and therefore &quot;lose&quot; the plastic in the nozzle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#d5e8f070\">Extra prime is the amount of extra material that is extruded after a retraction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This helps to make up for any empty space that may have been left in the nozzle after retraction.
